BalearWeb: Mallorca - Menorca - Ibiza - Formentera
The Moon will slide slowly in front of the Sun.
On the 3rd of October, a solar annular eclipse will take place, that will be observable from the Balearic Islands, from 9:43 to 12:35 h. The time of the maximum obscuration will be between 11:03 and 11:06 h, depending on the geographic location. The Moon will slide slowly in front of the Sun thus projecting a shadow along a narrow path which traverses the Iberian Peninsula and stretches across the African continent. In the Balearic Islands, the eclipse will have its maximum incidence on Formentera and the South-West of Ibiza, where the percentage of obscuration will be 90.5%. On the North-East of Ibiza the Moon will cover 90% of the Sun, in Mallorca the percentage of obscuration well be between 89% and 87% and in Menorca it will reach an average of 85%.
Coinciding with the eclipse, the Mallorca Astronomic Observatory has organised a day of open doors and warns that looking at the sun directly without proper protection can permanently damage your eyesight. To view the eclipse, it will be necessary to use proper eye protection.
