The awaited fiestas of Ciutadella are about to start.
On June 17, 18 and 19, in the Teatre Municipal des Born in Ciutadella, there will be the performances of the light operetta "Foc i Fum" (1885). This popular lyrical work by Francesc d'Assís de Rosselló i Sintes (1828-1898) with text by Joan Benejam i Vives (1846-1922) is performed once again for the festivity of Sant Joan. The play describes a love triangle, in the fiestas, between Na Francina, daughter of a family of peasants, En Rafel, her boyfriend and En Bartolomeu de Son Ticaque, who, thanks to a seller of hazlenuts, En Toni, manages to conquer young Francina.
This year the stage direction is by Joan Moncada and the musical direction by Lluís Pérez with the Orquestra Filharmònica de Ciutadella. There will be performances on Friday 17 (22:00 h), Saturday 18 (22:00 h) and Sunday 19 (11:00 h).
The same weekend, on Saturday night, June 18, the group Inventari and Cris Juanico with the Mags de Binigall will perform in the square of the Cathedral. And the day after, Sunday 19, the traditional "Dia des Be" will take place.
