Fiestas for Sant Martí and Sant Antoni.
This weekend, in Es Mercadal the "Festes de Sant Martí" will take place, and these star the horses and their riders, like the other patron saint festivities held during the summer all over the island, starting with Sant Joan a Ciutadella.
The "Festes de Sant Martí 2004" started last week and will continue until Monday, July 19 with a complete programme that includes, besides the mediaeval events that govern the protocol of the fiestas (qualcada de caixers, jaleo, caragols, completes...) to be held on on Saturday and Sunday of Sant Marti, July 17 and 18, a whole series of cultural activities. The complete program is available in PDF format.
Meanwhile, on July 24 and 25, the fourth weekend in July, according to tradition, the festivities of Sant Antoni will be held in Fornells, a neighbouring town to Es Mercadal, that belongs to the same municipality. Here too the horses and their riders will be the protagonists, although the programme of activities, also available PDF format, features many other activities until Friday 30th.
