The Day of Menorca coincides with the festivity of Sant Antoni,
patron saint of the island.
Next Friday, January 17, the Diada del Poble de Menorca will be held,
an institutional event that has been celebrated in all the towns of the island
since 1982 to commemorate the Menorcan conquest by King Alfons, in 1287.
From January 9 to 26, there will be activities in all the municipalities
of the island organised by the
Insular Council
of Menorca and the Town Councils.
Amongst other activities, worth stressing is the collective exhibition
"Terra, matèria expressiva" that can be visited at the exhibition
hall of el Roser de Ciutadella, as well as the Extraordinary meeting for
the Day of Menorca that will be held on Friday 17th at 6 p.m. in the Insular
Council of Menorca. And also the concerts of traditional music and the
popular sports activities that will be held around the island.
As for the
activities
that will be held in Ciutadella, do not miss the the traditional procession
of "Els Tres Tocs", and as for the activities that will be held in Maó,
the play "Ubú President" by Els Joglars at the Teatre Principal
(Friday 10th, 9.30 p.m.).
