Traditional Menorcan dances by Es Rebost

Traditional Menorcan dances by Es Rebost
Another year, during the summer season, the folk group Es Rebost organises together with the Maó Town Council the programme of "Ballades a sa Plaça". The dances, free entrance, are held at the Claustre del Carme in Maó, every Thursday at 20:30 h, until September 5.

The programme "Ballades a sa Plaça", which has been organised since 1996, is a perfect opportunity to get to know the traditional Menorcan music, dances and dresses. "Jotes", "fandangos", "boleros" and "bullangueres" form the repertory of the group. As well as this dancing songs the musicians play other popular songs from the island, while they give a rest to the dancers.

The dances and songs are presented by Paco –one of the musicians– and Rafel –one of the dancers and the director of the group– in a happy, familiar and participative atmosphere. Within the show, the public is also invited to perform together with the dancers one of the most simple and easy to learn dances.

The dresses of Es Rebost excel for their originality and variety, as the include some items that the rest of folk groups on the island do not use, such as the "barretina" o the "còfia" (caps).
