Es Castell celebrates the "Festes de Sant Jaume"
Last Saturday, July 13, the activities for the "Festes de Sant Jaume" started in Es Castell, and several concerts and other cultural activities have already been held.  Amongst the programmed events pending is the official twinning of the towns of  Jabalquinto (Jaén) and Es Castell with the presence of municipal authorities, that will take place on Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in the Council Meeting Hall.

The horses, horseriders and traditional protocol will be the protagonists as from Wednesday, July 24, with the first sound of the pipe, at 10 a.m. outside the Town Hall, and the announcement through the streets of the town of the arrival of the patron saint festivities. As from 4 p.m. there will be the hand over of the Sant Jaume flag to the  "caixera fadrina" and the grouping of the "qualcada" will start. At 5 p.m. the bells will chime and the Band of Migjorn Gran will appear, accompanied by the groups of Gegants, Capgrossos i Grallers of Es Castell'. At 7 p.m. the Solemn Completes will be held in the Roser church and at 8 p.m. the awaited "Jaleo" will start outside the Town Hall. The events of the day will end with a popular dance with the groups Elements and Polaris.

On Thursday, June 25, festivity of Sant Jaume, at 8 a.m. the Banda des Migjorn, accompanied by the Gegants, Capgrossos i Grallers of Es Castell, will interpret the "Diana Florejada" and the "qualcada" will start again. At 10.30 a.m. the Mass for the caixers in the church, followed by the Jaleo in the Plaza de la Esplanada. At 3 p.m. in the Town Hall the traditional drink for the Caixers; as from 4 p.m. the share out of the "aiguaros" through the streets of the town and at 8.30 p.m., the last sound of the pipe outside the Town Hall. The day will end with a popular dance with the groups Polaris and Elements in S'Esplanada, and firework display from the Plana Island.

The programme will continue until Friday, 26, festivity of Santa Anna, the day in which the festivities transfer to Cales Fonts, where, as from 5 p.m. there will be regattas for children and youngsters, and a swimming race from the Llatzeret to the headland of Cales Fonts.  This will be followed by a musical evening by the sea and the programme will end for this year with a grand fire cracker on the Santa Anna cliff.
