Last January 22, 2002, the Follow Up Committee for the Project LIFE
2000NAT/E/7355 for "The conservation of areas with threatened flora on
Menorca" was constituted, integrated by representatives of all the competent
institutions in the matter of conservation on the island, the collective
of NGO and the Institut Menorquí d'Estudis, presided by Joana Barceló,
president of the Menorcan Insular Council.
With this project LIFE for the conservation of areas with threatened
flora they intend to guarantee the restitution of favourable conditions
for vegetable species in seven areas proposed as LIC, the first objective
being to eradicate the Carpobrotus edulis, invading plant from South Africa,
that threatens the survival of autochthonous flora.
