On Thursday, November 3, the festive events will start in Es Mercadal
for the Day of Sant Martí, the town's patron saint. The activities
programmed for this first day of festivities will start at 5 p.m. with
the "Missa de Germanor" for the pensioners, followed by the traditional
refreshments and start of the "Hunting Race 2001"
On Friday, at 7 p.m. the hunting competition will continue; at 8 p.m.
there will be a jazz and poetry recital; and at 9.30 p.m. the Mallorcan
company, Nostra Terra, will perform the play "La platja és ben buida".
A second production, "Els monòlegs i diàlegs des Mascle
Ros", also by the group Nostra Terra, will be the festive proposal for
Saturday.
The central part of the programme will be held on Sunday 11, "Diada
de Sant Martí", starting at 10.30 a.m. with a bicycle excursion
that will end with a sobrasada barbecue at the old military barracks.
At 12 mid-day, is the Mass in honour of the patron saint and at 5 p.m.
there will be a parade organised by the Club de Majorets des Mercadal.
A talk about anecdotes and customs of the Sant Martí fiestas by
professor Joan Janer, and the giving of insignias to the Junta de Caixers
del Bienni 1999-2000 will end the day.
The last programmed event of the fiestas this year will be the children's
show "A-2" by the clowns Ínfima la Puça on Monday 12 at 12.30
p.m.
