Patron saint fiestas at Sant Lluís

Patron saint fiestas at Sant Lluís
This weekend the central events for the patron saint fiestas of Sant Lluís will take place. These started on Tuesday and will link up with the "Festes de Sant Lluïset" next weekend. The fiestas, dedicated to Saint Luis, King of France, star the horses and 'caixers' following a strict protocol.

The first event of the protocol is the placing of the flag of the Patron in the Town Hall balcony, which takes place on Friday 24, after the street parade of giants and giant heads at 7 p.m., and after the reading of the proclamation. Immediately after there is the street-firework run in the Calle de Es Cós, and finally music with Joana Pons amb ses Guiterres.

Bell ringing on Saturday at 4.30 p.m. will announce the start of the street parade with the Band, and the time when the 'fabioler' will start the gathering of 'caixers'. The start of the 'Qualcada' presided by the 'caixer batle', is expected at 6.30 pm. At 8 p.m. there will be the 'solemnes completes' in the church and afterwards the 'caixers' will mount their horses and offer the neighbours and visitors the typical 'jaleo' in the square of the church, which will end with a 'caragol' round the streets of the town. At approximately 11.30 p.m. the dance will start at Sa Creu.

On Sunday, at 8.15 a.m. the groups of giants and giantheads will go round the streets of Sant Lluís and the protocol will continue.  At 10.30 a.m. the "Missa de caixers' in the church, the traditional share out of "aigua-ros" and at 11.30 a.m. the typical Jaleo before the church with the hand out of green canes and silver spoons. This is followed by refreshments in the Town Hall with popular sangría. In the evening, there is the traditional float parade and the day ends with the second popular dance and a firework display.

On Monday, the activities will continue and then three days' rest until the  "Festes de Sant Lluïset", that will start on Friday August 31 and will continue until Sunday September 2. The fiestas de Sant Lluïset include a popular dance, a rock and roll night on Friday 31; a children's party, the Qualcada de Sant Lluïset, Jaleo and dance on Saturday 1; and clay pigeon shooting, Qualcada, Jaleo and donkey races on Sunday 2.
