The Constitutional permits the application of the Law for Insular Councils
Yesterday, May 24 2001, the Tribunal
Constitucional published that it has decided unanimously to raise the
suspension on the eleven articles of the Ley
de Consells Insulars impugned by the central Government.
The decision by the Tribunal Constitucional to raise the suspension
for the appealed articles, announced by the president of the Govern
de les Illes Balears, Francesc Antich, means the stop to the block
in the application of the new law awaiting a final sentence that can take
some years. The Tribunal Constitucional in their sentence, on May
22, 2001 considers the double legal nature of the Insular Councils as autonomous
institutions and as local institutions, which lets them apply and develop
the new law in the foreseen way.
Maria Antònia Munar, president of the Consell
de Mallorca expressed yesterday her satisfaction for the decision by
the TC and announced the edition of an organisation rule for the institution
she presides to adapt it rapidly to the new Law for Insular Councils.
