2000: a successful year for Balearic sport
The electronic publication Web Esport has made a report on the different successes that have been obtained by the Balearic sportspeople in 2000.

The cyclists, Joan Llaneras and Marga Fullana, gold and bronze medalists respectively in the Sydney Olympics, the swimmer, Xavi Torres, three gold and one bronze medals in the Sydney paralympics; Pere J. Carbonell and Albert March, gold and bronze medalists respectively in the World Championships in Tahiti for deep sea fishing; Pedro Campillo and Gregorio Santiago, gold and silver medalists respectively in the Word Taekwondo championships in Corea; Johan Reinhardt and Miquel Molina, gold and bronze medalists in the world Karate championships in Valencia; Rafel Nadal and Tomeu Salvā, gold medalists in the Tennis World championship in Chequia; Paco Vallejo, under 18 champion in the World Chess championship; Roser Vives, gold medalist in the European Junior swimming championship; and the cyclist Toni Tauler, team champion in the Tour de France, are the sportspeople of the Balearics who have triumphed in international competitions during 2000.

As for national competitions, the islands' sportspeople have obtained excellent results in 2000, mainly in athletics and swimming.
