Society of Information: Agreement between the Balearic Government and the Xunta of Galicia
The Councillor for Education and Culture of the Balearic Government went to Galicia last week to meet the Councillor for Education and University Planning of the Xunta of Galicia, Celso Currás. They signed an agreement for the cession of the right of use and transformation of the Project SIEGA (System of Information of Gallician Education) and the corresponding computer applications, by the Xunta to the Balearic Government.

SIEGA is a complete system for educational administration to convert information into knowledge, developed for several years by the Council for Education and University Planning of the Xunta, with the aim to obtain complete integration of the Gallician educational system into the Society of Information.

According to the Councillor for Education and Culture of the Balearic Government the introduction of a computer application for the integral administration of education centres will enable all public centres in the Balearics to have a common computer application. Via Internet, they will exchange information with the central services of the Council so that this will simplify the administration and the process of exploitation of the data. The communication between centres and central services will use the electronic mail as a basic channel.

The programme that the Xunta is ceding via the signing of the agreement will be adapted by the Balearic Council to the Balearic educational system. It is expected that the primary centres will have the adapted application by the second half of 2000.
