The economy of the islands will maintain the actual growth in 2000

The welfare and cultural director of Sa Nostra, Miquel Alenyà, presented on Monday the Social and Economic Report of the Balearic Islands for 1998, elaborated by Sa Nostra. According to the report, the tourist income in 1998 were for the first time over a billion pesetas, with a growth of 14.73 in respect to 1997. As to the number of tourists, these were over 10 million. During the ceremony, Miquel Alenyà announced that for 2000 the GNP is expected to be 7 per cent in the first months of the year and 5 per cent in the last.
