As part of the international Day and with the slogan "The city without
my car", numerous European cities will participate on Monday, September
22 in the celebration of the
European
Car Free Day with a view to giving the public the opportunity of practising
other forms of alternative transport to the private vehicle and giving
them the possibility of rediscovering the city, its inhabitants and its
heritage. As usual, Palma will join this celebration. Last year Maó
and Eivissa also seconded the day but this year so far are not in the list
of the cities supporting the initiative. Different ecological organisations
of the Balearics and Pitiüses will also organise activities around
this date. Amongst these is the "V Massa Crítica per Palma", a bicycle
ride organised by the
GOB-Mallorca
to bring people's attention to cities designed only for the use of cars.
Meanwhile, about three hundred European cities will participate between
September 16 and 22 in the second edition of the
European
Mobility Week promoted by the European Union.
