Next Saturday, October 26, the flame of the "Correllengua" will travel
round the towns of Menorca. This will be the first time that this symbolic
event, in favour of the Catalan language, reaches the island, which "represents
a success for the
Correllengua
of this year that hopes to have continuity in the future"
according
to the CAL, the organizers.
The flame of the language, the cohesion element of the whole initiative,
will arrive by sea at the Port of Cales Fonts, in Es Castell, and will
travel from one end of the island to the other, passing through Sant
Lluís, Maó, Alaior, Es Mercadal, Es Migjorn Gran, Ferreries
and Ciutadella. The torch will travel from hand to hand and will stop in
each town and village giving way to the reading of the
Manifiest.
Cultural and entertaining activities will accompany the celebration.
The lunch will take place in Mercadal and the end of the fiesta in Ciutadella.
The closure, that will be held as from 6 p.m. in the Cathedral square,
will include children's entertainment and music with Pinyeta Pinyol, stories,
fables, a dance with groups from the federation
FEMEFOLK
and "glossats" (local rhymes). The final point will be placed by
s'Albaida
with a concert of traditional music. The event has the support by the
Consell
de Menorca, the town councils and all the people and groups that participate
freely in the day.
This sixth edition of the Correllengua, held throughout the Catalan
speaking territory, will end on November 9 in Perpignan.
