Last Sunday, July 14, on the quay of Cales Fonts (Es Castell) there
was a day of underwater cleaning, as part of the programme "El 2002 miram
cap a la mar" .
The ecological initiative, organised by the Club Náutico Villacarlos
and the GOB, sponsored by the office of the Reserva de Biosfera del Consell
Insular de Menorca and collaboration by the Es Castell Town Council, was
carried out by six divers and some ten volunteers in charge of classifying
on land the residues extracted from the sea.
Amongst the material obtained, there were 385 glass bottles and 45 plastic
ones, 36 car wheels, 39 tins, 44 small pieces of iron and 6 large ones,
and many other objects of diverse precedence, such as a commercial scale,
or a giant poster.
