Maó will celebrate on Saint Peter's saints day, June 29, the
traditional "Festa Marinera", that this year will take place on the old
fishermen's quay (explanada de Llevant).
The programme will start at 4 p.m. with the "Regata de Sant Pere", followed
by a demonstration of Latin Sail and different regattas (Optimist, Snipe,
cannoe, Laser...). At 7 p.m. there will be the popular crossing of the
port by swimmers followed by traditional games in the sea and children's
entertainment by the puppet group
Trukitrek.
The festive day will end with a grand sardine supper and the Habana
songs concert by Sa Rosa des Vents, accompanied by the "cremat" by Casal
Català. The "cremat" is a hot drink, typical of the Habana
singing, based on rum, coffee, lemon peel, cinnamon and sugar that is flamed
to burn off almost all the alcohol.
The "Festa Marinera" is organised by Amics de la Mar,
Escoltes
Paco Ramonell, Club Natació Maó, Club Marítim
de Maó and
Ajuntament de Maó,
with the collaboration of the
Autoritat
Portuària de Balears,
Creu
Roja and Casal Català.
