The Sa Nostra Cultral Hall in Maó will hold from April 12 to
May 8 the exhibition "Carlos Barrantes. Col·lecció Fotògrafs
a les Illes".
All the photographs are presented on Arches-Platine de 310 gr., 56 x
76 cm. paper. The works are signed and numbered by the author, carried
out with an edition limited to 5 numbered examples, two trials numbered
by the author and 1 numbered ex-commerce.
According to the organisers, "for this series Carlos Barrantes has used
the platinotype technique, a photographic process that appears in the XIX
century. The author carries out the copies on papers chosen for their texture
and quality, in which he applies a photosensitive emulsion of platinum
salts. The positive is carried out by contact with the negative amplified
to the size of the final image. This technique guarantees on the one hand,
an exceptional conservation due to the unalterable properties of platinum
salts, and on the other, a capacity of recording tones that, with their
opaque aspect, produce an image of great sensitivity."
