Greenpeace has suspended the events programmed
to celebrate its 30th anniversary, because of the tragic attacks in the
United States. Thus, the international ecologist organisation reaffirms
its commitment to non-violence, and to the belief that violence only begets
violence. According to Gerd Leipold, Executive director of Greenpeace International,
"we look forward to a day when humanity finds peaceful means to resolve
its disputes."
Greenpeace was formed in 1971, when a handful of activist hired a battered
boat and sailed into the US atomic test zone off Amchitka, Alaska, to protest
against nuclear testing..
Nowadays, the Mallorcan Antoni Font is one of the six members of the
of the International Board of Greenpeace, based in Amsterdam.
