On September 20, a Common buzzard (Buteo buteo) was found dead on an
electric pylon near the area of Es Freus, to the East of Maó.
.
The bird found was hanging from a pylon a few metres from the ground.
The death of this common ratter is another to add to the hundreds of birds
who had died on the electric cables of Menorca, such as Kites, crows, Fishermen
Eagles and a long list of species.
According to the
GOB, the electric
infrastructure of Menorca, with hundreds of pylons without any insulation,
represents now one of the principal threats for the future of numerous
species of birds. As this is a protected species, the ecological
organisation has denounced the fact to the Council of Environment of the
Balearic Government and to SEPRONA requesting very specially that steps
are taken to insulate the pylons to avoid the repetition of cases such
as this one.
