The
World
Theatre Day was created in 1961 by the
International
Theatre Institute (ITI). It is celebrated annually on the 27th March
by ITI Centres and the international theatre community. Various national
and international theatre events are organized to mark this occasion. One
of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre
Day International Message traditionally written by a theatre personality
of world stature.
The World Theatre Day International Message for the year 2001 has been
written by
Iakovos
Kampanellis, a playwright from Greece. The International Message is
translated into more than 20 languages, including
Catalan.
For the same March 27, the
Service
of Cultural Activities of the UIB has organised a
day
dedicated to the theatre and throughout the day, in the university
campus, there will be performances, workshops, round tables and happenings.
On the other hand, the association of professional actors and actress of the Balearics (AAPIB), the Association of Theater
producers companies (ABET), and the association of amateur theatre groups, will celebrate the day with the reading of the
International Message, outside the
Teatre Principal, at 20 h. The actor Joan Maria Melis will read the text.
